The town of Buckhorn sits in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes region surrounded by some of the best known fishing and vacation lakes in Ontario. The famous Tri-Lakes of Buckhorn, Pigeon and Chemong or the aptly named Stony Lake have long been sought after holiday destinations. These lakes are connected by the 386 kilometer Trent Severn Waterway and its system of locks joining the great lakes of Huron and Ontario.

The waterway marks its historic beginning this year with its 175th anniversary in nearby Bobcaygeon at what is now known as Lock 32. Buckhorn is well known as the home to the famous Buckhorn Community Centre which has fostered many popular annual events like the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival and the wine and food show known as Fiesta Buckhorn. Nearby are many golf courses, marinas, art galleries, restaurants, riding stables, public beaches, provincial parks, and many hundreds of thousands of acres of beautiful, unspoilt nature. The new Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park will introduce many to the beauty of Anstruther Lake, Catchacoma Lake and the Mississauga.
With so many lakes it should come as no surprise that the main economic activity is tourism. Accommodation can be found at one of the cottage resorts, inns, campgrounds, trailer parks and bed & breakfasts which cater to the thousands who come to cruise the lakes, fish, visit one of the many attractions such as Lang Pioneer Village or the Canadian Canoe Museum or just relax in the sun near the beautiful shining waters.
